There are two types of group available at this Symposium. A group where people can experience leadership, run in parallel with the classic groups. Those who are on the leadership accreditation pathway or are interested in leading groups will find the leadership groups particularly useful.

Tom Inglis, Sociologist & Author

Tom is a sociologist who has spent most of his working life trying to understand how he has come to be the way he is. He has focused on Irish society and culture and, in particular, the Catholic Church, the state, the media, sexuality, religion, meanings of life and love.

Since retiring from UCD, he has lived in Cootehall and has become involved in the John McGahern Museum.

His books include Moral Monopoly: The Rise and Fall of the Catholic Church in Modern Ireland (1998); Truth, Power and Lies: The Case of the Kerry Babies (2003); The Meanings of Life (2014); To Love a Dog (2020); and Unbecoming Catholic: Being Religious in Contemporary Ireland (2025).
