Reflective practice for clinicians, on the Sligo coast
The Sligo Balint Symposium brings healthcare professionals together to think carefully, in trusted company and groups, about the relationships at the heart of their clinical work.
What we do
We host two events each year for clinicians who need time and space to reflect on their practice — on the encounters that stay with them, on the difficulty and meaning of the consultation, and on the work of remaining present in modern healthcare.
Both events are grounded in the Balint method: a structured form of group reflection, developed by the psychoanalyst Michael Balint, in which clinicians explore the doctor–patient relationship together under the guidance of trained leaders.
The work is recognised as External CPD by the Irish Medical Council, ICGP and ICP, amongst others.
Our Events
Sligo Balint Symposium
2 days each May · Sligo
Our flagship gathering. Over two days on the Atlantic coast, doctors and clinicians working in hospital, primary care and mental health settings come together for accredited facilitated Balint groups.
Autumn Balint Symposium
One day each September · Sligo
A one-day introduction to Balint work each September, open to healthcare providers of all disciplines. No prior experience of Balint is required.
Which event is for me?
If you are a doctor, or working in a hospital, primary care or mental health setting, and ready for a deeper, immersive experience of Balint work, the May Symposium is likely the right starting point.
The September Autumn Workshop is a more intimate workshop, designed for less people and smaller groups.
Many participants find their way to both, in time.
