The Sligo Balint Symposium offers a one-day Autumn Workshop
One day each September · Radisson Blu Hotel, Sligo
A one-day workshop in the Balint tradition, designed for doctors and healthcare workers who want to reconnect with the heart of clinical practice. The day offers space to reflect on the emotional and relational dimensions of the consultation, in the support of trusted company — and serves as a gentle introduction to Balint work for those new to the method.
What the Autumn Workshop Offers
Three facilitated Balint group sessions
Time to reflect on complexity, uncertainty and meaning in clinical care
A gently held programme with space for replenishment
A scenic Sligo location, good food, and warm conversation
The workshop is grounded in the same Balint tradition as our annual symposium, but in a shorter and more accessible format. It is well suited to clinicians who are curious about Balint work but unsure whether the two-day symposium is the right starting point.
Who should attend
The autumn workshop is open to doctors and healthcare providers of all disciplines — general practice, hospital medicine, psychiatry, psychotherapy, psychology, nursing, and allied health. No prior experience of Balint work is required.
For doctors who find the method resonates and who wish to continue this work in a longer, more immersive setting, our May Symposium offers a deeper two-day experience.
CPD recognition
The workshop is recognised as External CPD by the Irish Medical Council, ICGP, ICP amongst others and carries 5.5 ACE CPD points. This reflects a broader recognition of Balint work as a structural educational process that deepens clinical insight, judgement, and professional sustainability.
Your facilitators
The workshop is led by Patsy Brady and Dr Trish Noonan, both accredited Balint leaders with the UK Balint Society. Read their full biographies here.
